This was published at a time of western expansion: the 'Great Game' was being played in central Asia; Hong Kong island is marked; and the India Mutiny against British Rule erupted the next year.

Prospect of the Dardanelles at the beginning of the 17th century
George Sandys.

London: William Barrett, 1617. A copper-engraved view of the Dardanelles, separating Europe from Asia. The accompanying text describes Sandys' voyage from Constantinople through the strait to Palestine in 1611. He tells how the Turkish forts here held all Christian ships for three days to ensure they were legitimate.
