Satire on Ireland
James Gillray.

London, H.G.Bohn, 1851. First published 1805, this is a dim view of Ireland, with run-down taverns and coaches, and starving pigs and horses, only a few years after Ireland was incorporated into the United Kingdom in 1801. The signature bottom left, 'C.Loraine Smith', is meant satirically, with Gillray using the name of a well-known landscape painter.

Amsterdam, Jan Jansson, 1641. French text edition. Japan, with Korea shown as an island. This is the second state of the plate, introduced 1636; the title and cartouche have been altered, and a galleon has replaced the original junk in the sea under the island, although the Latin description underneath still refers to the Japanese craft.
