Paris, c.1775. 240 x 355mm. Coloured. Early map of the Falkland Islands, still with much of the coast of West Falkland blank. English possessions on the smaller islands south of Pebble Island on West Falkand are marked with 'B'; and the French settlement in Berkeley Sound ('occupied now by the Spanish', according to the caption) with 'A'. The French took the islands in 1764, but were expelled by the Spanish, who ceded control to the English in 1771.
